About New Hope

New Hope brings education and specialist support together within one school day. Three curriculum streams give learners room to work towards outcomes that are both appropriately challenging and relevant to the way they learn.

The academic stream follows CAPS and can lead to the National Senior Certificate. Technical occupational learning connects core subjects with practical fields and work habits, while life-skills programmes give greater attention to functional academics, communication, self-care and participation in everyday life.

A pathway is not a judgement about a learner’s worth or potential. It is a practical way of matching teaching, pace and longer-term goals more closely to the learner, while continuing to review progress and possibility.

A learner may encounter many kinds of expertise at New Hope: educators, educational psychologists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech therapists, class assistants, facilitators, nursing staff, social work and counselling support.

The value of this multidisciplinary setting lies in connection. A classroom difficulty may have a communication, movement, sensory or emotional dimension; by sharing observations, the team can respond to the learner as a whole person rather than treating each need in isolation.

Families remain essential partners in this work. Their knowledge of the learner, together with regular school-based observation, helps the team keep support practical, consistent and connected to life beyond the classroom.
